MANNING, SC - Violet Melissa Whytsell, beloved wife of Jim Whytsell, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Palmetto Richland Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Born in Dille, West Virginia on February 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Dessie and Levi Martin. She lived with her husband and their two children in Charleston, West Virginia, where she also worked as a legal secretary. In 1996, she and her husband retired to the Wyboo Plantation community in Manning, SC. An avid golfer and gardener, she cherished her family and her many neighbors and friends. She was a member of the Women’s Circle of The Presbyterian Church at Manning, and was actively involved in serving her church and the surrounding area.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Eric Whytsell and his wife Ginger of Chevy Chase, Maryland; her daughter Melissa Hodges and her husband Jon of Raleigh, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Thomas Hodges and Mary Blair Whytsell. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings Maxine Ellison, Lorene Campbell, Grace Cavender, Betty Price, Phyllis Graham, Loretta Keener, and Joe Martin.
A service was held at The Presbyterian Church at Manning on Friday, March 19 at 11 AM, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Presbyterian Church at Manning, P. O. Box 207, Manning, SC 29102.
